Heart Disease Vs. Gun Control

A gun is simply a weapon - a tool that can be used for bad or good. It is an inanimate object and does not make a conscious decision on when it is used or for what purpose. We could seize every gun in our nation and that still would not result in the end of murder and crime. Why? Because murder is a matter of man's heart and not a matter of gun control. The heart of the matter is a matter of the heart.

Consider these verses and notice what they say about the heart. 

• Genesis 27:41 "So Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing with which his father blessed him, and Esau said in his heart, 'The days of mourning for my father are at hand; then I will kill my brother Jacob.'”
• Jesus speaking in Matthew 15:19 "For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders..."

Gun control won't cure man's heart disease. There is only one hope, and that is found in Christ. We have the promise that when we come to Christ for salvation, He will give us a new heart! "I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you..." (Ezekiel 36:26) See also Ezekiel 11:19; Jeremiah 4:14; John 3:16 and Romans 10:9-13.
